Information Schedule Averages

Berkeley Cricket Club consists of UC Berkeley students and players from around the San Francisco Bay Area.  We are primarily composed of undergraduates and graduate students, as well as graduates, of UC Berkeley who are very fervent about playing cricket.  BCC, as our club is generally referred to, was established in 1990 and has developed into a strong, cohesive team in the B division.  We normally practice once a week during the season; practices are held at Kleeberger Field located next to the Memorial Stadium in Berkeley.  Currently, there are about twenty members in our Club, and membership is rising steadily. Visit the BCC home page for schedule, and team and individual statistics of each member.  We invite and encourage new members to join us.

1990-92:          John Knight with the help of a few cricket enthusiasts founded Berkeley Cricket Club in 1990. The first three years were the building phase of the club—growing together and getting to know each member (current and new), developing team chemistry, and promoting the Club.  The team usually placed in the bottom third of the B-Division.  While John Knight continued serving as the President, Sushil Nachnani was the Captain.

1993:               Under continued leadership of J. Knight and S. Nachnani, as the President and Captain, respectively, BCC improved very much but continued to struggle. This year R. Kanitkar was chosen to represent the All-NCCA Team and is the first in BCC's short history and one of the very few from the B-Division to have done so.

1994:               This year marked the emergence of BCC as a resolute club.  After departure of J. Knight, Ravi Kanitkar took over as the President and Inderjit Dhillon as the Captain.  With the advent of many new members, BCC gained confidence and made the playoffs for the first time in its brief history and displayed a very strong outing as it was considered to be its strongest season.

1995:               Aaron Ware became our new President, while I. Dhillon continued as the Captain.  This year BCC lost a few mature players.  Regrettably, BCC did not make the playoffs this year.

1996:               This year we hoped to rise BCC to a higher level of competition.  BCC now was made up of many young, talented players mostly undergraduate and graduate students at UC Berkeley.  Many of the players were very motivated toward finishing strong in the league and were even hopeful for the league title.  Under the leadership of young Arun Jangity as the President and Asif Thobhani as a new, energetic Captain, BCC reached the finals of Muller Cup and Bank of India Cup.  Unfortunately, BCC failed to win either championship.

1997:               After having the most successful season in the previous year, BCC members decided to continue under leadership of A. Jangity and A. Thobhani, as the President and Captain, respectively.  Overcoming adversities at mid-season, BCC again reached finals of both Muller Cup and Bank of India Cup.  Ecstatically, BCC won the Muller Cup Championship, the first of hopefully many championships.

1998:               This year we hope to continue with successful tradition established over the past few years.  Under the leadership of one of our newest members, Affan Butt, who has quickly earned the respect and confidence of the members, as the Captain and Asif Thobhani as the President, we have set yet higher goals for this season.
